I think these videos are both very good and from very credible sources. The first is Michael Pettis who is based in Peking university and is one of the most watched Chinese analysts. Pettis shares my view with respect to China and its imbalances.

The Second video is of Andy Rothman who is with CLSA. Rothman has a much more optimistic view of China going forward. I think Rothman’s contrasting view is legitimate and is worth considering as we see events unfold. He is skeptical of the threat or existence of such imbalances when this crisis is viewed in contrast to the Asian crisis of the late 1990’s.

The Chinese have built capacity for a world in which the US has an ever growing ability to consume more. With their stimulus efforts they have added to that capacity. Once the government directed investment in capacity has been exhausted deflationary pressures should mount.
